The Power of Generosity in Business Building |
Today I want to share some invaluable insights about the importance of fostering a generous and supportive community. This concept was solidified during my time with Kevin Thompson’s group—a dynamic space that truly exemplifies the principles of generosity and openness. Kevin is a big, gregarious, funny guy you might find on Facebook. I was part of his group for a long time, and the investment was substantial—$500 to $1000 a month for one call. At first glance, it might seem pricey, but the value was immeasurable. The group was meticulously cultivated. To be part of it, you had to be a person of generosity, someone who embodies a giving spirit. It was never about holding back; everyone was expected to share openly and contribute fully. This approach created an environment where, when faced with a challenge, I knew I’d get high-quality answers. Everyone in the group had at least a seven-figure business and a couple of employees. This ensured that the insights shared were relevant and valuable. If I encountered a problem, members would open up their Rolodex, share their experiences, and say, "I've been there before; you're not alone. Here’s how I solved it. Would you like an introduction to the solution?" Charging for membership wasn't about making money. It was about keeping the wrong people out of the conversation. It’s a different mindset. Some of the right people understand this. For example, Patrick, passionate about his nonprofit, would ensure every dollar goes straight to the cause. If someone wasn’t willing to contribute, it spoke volumes about their mindset. It's not about a specific amount; it's about the willingness to give. Tony Robbins often says, "If you won’t give $10 out of $100, you won’t give $10 million out of $100 million." It’s a mindset of generosity. Kevin also pioneered a unique approach to events. He would host two-day workshops and say, "You can come to the event for free. At the end, pay what you feel it was worth. If you got $3 of value, pay $3; if you got $30,000 of value, pay $30,000." There was no judgment, and Kevin wouldn’t even look at what you paid. This model, based on generosity, was incredibly successful because it built trust and ensured that the value was genuinely provided. In our Business Builders Community, we strive to emulate these principles. By cultivating a spirit of generosity and openness, we create a supportive environment where everyone can thrive. It’s about giving and receiving value, fostering connections that lead to real solutions, and building a community that propels everyone forward. Remember that the value of generosity goes beyond money. It’s about creating a community with the right energy, where every member is committed to contributing to the success and well-being of others. |
