The Power of Selective Focus |
My newsletter this week shares an important insight on the balance between intuition and selective focus. Recently, I had an interesting conversation about the challenge of sometimes needing to intentionally shut off certain parts of ourselves to achieve our goals. This concept can seem counterintuitive, especially when we often hear about, even from me, the importance of being in tune with our bodies and emotions. Let me share a personal perspective. I’ve had similar discussions where we explored how blocking out certain sensations or emotions can be incredibly beneficial. This isn’t about ignoring our intuition or body entirely, but rather about understanding when to selectively focus and when to let go. For example, my ability to shut off pain receptors and other sensations has its downsides—I might not be as in tune with my body as others. However, it also grants me the ability to push through challenges that might stop others. This selective focus allows me to achieve things that require a higher tolerance for discomfort or a laser-focused mindset. The one-size-fits-all approach doesn’t work here. What’s beneficial for one person might not be for another. It’s about finding the right balance for yourself. Knowing when to tune into your body and intuition is crucial, but so is knowing when to shut off distractions and push through barriers. This principle applies broadly to our business endeavors as well. There are times when we need to be fully in tune with our team, our market, and our own feelings. And there are times when we need to block out the noise, focus intently on the task at hand, and push through discomfort to reach our goals. So, Business Builders, I challenge you to find your balance. Understand when to listen to your body and intuition, and when to shut off those signals to focus on achieving your objectives. This selective focus is a powerful tool in your arsenal for success. |
