Set a Target So Big It Pulls You Forward |
The crazy thing about impossible goals? They’re often easier to hit than the mediocre ones. Let me explain. When you set the bar low—when you aim to be “the best in your category” or “the biggest in your space”—you give yourself a dozen comfortable paths to get there. Throw some polish on your brand, upgrade your facility, improve your testing, tighten your packaging. Boom—you’re better than the rest. But that’s a trap. Because being better than “them” isn’t the goal. Playing to win means picking a target so audacious, it redefines how you think, operate, and build. Not “how do we win here?”—but how do we win in the next realm up? That’s how I think in my business. We're not content playing in the league we're in. We’re asking: What does it take to compete—and dominate—in the space above ours? What does it take to operate with the compliance, oversight, and manufacturing precision of the most trusted companies in the world? What systems, controls, documentation, and pride must we instill so that we’re not just leading in our lane—but invited into conversations with global powerhouses? We’re chasing a future that’s not currently within reach—but it is achievable. And that’s the point. When you raise your target, you raise your standards. You start to behave like the company you want to become. You install discipline where there used to be compromise. You elevate your systems, your culture, your identity—because the game demands it. That’s how transformation happens. Not from setting easy goals. But from declaring war on complacency and building toward something far bigger than what feels “realistic.” So here’s the question: Are your goals forcing you to evolve—or just helping you feel good? If the target doesn’t scare you a little, it’s probably not worth chasing. Define a goal so big it stretches your identity. Then rise into it—one system, one standard, one decision at a time. |
